Metropolitan Areas in Southeast Asia

A?metropolitan area, sometimes referred to as a?metro area?or?metro, is a region consisting of a densely populated urban core and its less-populated surrounding territories, sharing?industry,?infrastructure, and?housing. A metropolitan area usually comprises multiple jurisdictions?and?municipalities:?neighborhoods,?townships,?cities,?exurbs,?counties, and even?states.
As social, economic and political institutions have changed, metropolitan areas have become key economic and political regions. Metropolitan areas include one or more urban areas, as well as satellite cities and intervening rural areas that are socio-economically tied to the urban core, typically measured by?commuting?patterns.
One of the examples maybe here in the Philippines, the one called Metro Manila. Consists of 16 cities. These are(in alphabetical order): Caloocan, Las Pinas, Makati, Malabon, Mandaluyong, Manila, Marikina, Muntinlupa, Navotas, Paranaque, Pasay, Pasig, Quezon City, San Juan Metro Manila, Taguig and Valenzuela. These cities are being called Metropolitan Manila as a whole.
A metropolitan area doesn’t really mean all those cities that make it as a whole are large cities, some are small and some are large. The economic output of each cities also differs from each other in a way that one city has an income of great amounts. To my knowledge, a metropolitan area should be solid in helping all those that are in it. It should be like that the metropolitan area is the team and the cities in it are the team members. You can see that group efforts when it comes to fire accident, typhoons, flooding and other acts of nature that happens within the area. Each one of the members try to help each other and build a solid foundation for each of the other members to survive.
For example, a fire bursts out in Manila, usually fire trucks and firemen are volunteers from other cities aside from the ones in the city where the fire is happening. Flood victims from Manila and Marikina usually take shelter in other cities aside from the evacuation centers in the said areas.
To end this article, I would admit I haven’t a broad idea about the range and other qualities of metropolitan areas but I hope that this article gave at least some of the ideas required to further understand what the latter means.
